Prof. Avi Domb research laboratory is located at School of Pharmacy, Institute for Drug Research, Faculty of Medicine, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. The laboratory is a multidisciplinary research group working at the interface of medicinal chemistry, biomaterials, polymer science, drug delivery, and nanotechnology.
The Domb Research Group is a dynamic, interdisciplinary team at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, working at the intersection of synthetic chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, and biomaterial engineering. By bringing together a talented cohort of researchers—including both chemists and pharmacists—our lab fosters a unique collaborative environment where fundamental chemical design seamlessly blends with translational biomedical expertise. Our research focuses on developing innovative drug delivery systems, functional polymers, advanced biomaterials, and phenolate salts designed for enhanced drug solubility and stability. Beyond medical applications, we actively explore sustainable chemical technologies and novel catalytic processes to address modern environmental and industrial challenges. From initial hypothesis to real-world translation, we strive to bridge the gap between benchtop science, and practical commercial applications that make a lasting impact.

From the molecule to the dosage form to the patient — these are the disciplines that anchor the group's research.
The laboratory is led by Prof. Abraham J. Domb - Lionel Jacobson Chair in Medicinal Chemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a chemist, pharmacist, and lifelong builder of biodegradable polymer therapeutics.
Trained at Bar‑Ilan and the Hebrew University, with postdoctoral work at Harvard Medical School and MIT under Judah Folkman and Robert Langer, he leads the group's programmes across biodegradable polymers, controlled drug delivery, medicinal chemistry, nanotechnology, gene delivery, tissue engineering, and forensic science.
